Just moved to Camborne from San Francisco to look after my mum who
lives here and has had to go into hospital.

I'm probably going to piss off a lot of people when I say this, but
this is probably the most boring place I've ever been.

I can't get a drink past 11PM, there are no cafes to hang out at, the
only book store is a crappy WH Simths, it fucking rains all the time, I
can't get any pot to smoke, right now it's 5:30AM, I've been up all
night and I can't find anywhere to get cigarettes.

</end of whining>

How the fuck do you people survive?

Easy; Without any booze, cigarettes or other drugs, we don't have the
usual methods available of killing ourselves. :-)

I guess you don't mean Camborne Cornwall then. because there are 2 or
3 cafe's, one of which is open all day sunday, there are two 'night
clubs' one being tyacks which I believe is open from 11am to 12pm and
the other is in the building opposite Tyacks, but I don't remember its
name. There are numerous sources of whatever drug you heart may
desire, try hanging out in the White Heart or The Railway :-) for a
while. Admittedly there is only W.H.Smiths for new books, but there
are many charity shops with an excellent and varied range of second
hand books. Take a bus to Helston and visit the Blue Anchor, or to
Redruth and try the Rose Cottage, or even get up to the Countryman at
Piece which has live music every night except tuesday nights when its
a team quiz night. I'll be at the Countryman on Tues night if you want
a meet.

Thanks for the info, Mike. I'm over my homesickness now. Sorry for
whining. Can't make it out tonight as I have to visit my mum in
hospital. I'll email you off the group if can make it to Redruth some
time. Tyacks was good. The place across the street is the Corn
Exchange, open til 2AM. The Plough Pub is another place I liked, very
friendly people. Also picked up some decent literature form the
charity shops as you suggested. So far it's all looking up.

Peace.

Well it's a bit of a contrast going for the party city of the world to a
small obscure town in Cornwall!

Anyway, I'll vouch for Mike W, (Pencoys). He is a nice regular sort of a
guy.

Just the same as you said about me when you had lunch at chez crumplehorn. I
sold up last May and now live in Canada! I have been hankering for a good
Cornish pasty the past few months and bought one from a 'Scottish Imports'
shop. They have a man from Dartmouth who is their baker. First off the crimp
was on the top and it was filled with a reddish brown goo. Absolutely foul
and an abomination to call it a Cornish Pasty. I made 3 big 'uns and 4 small
'uns yesterday. Proper job too, they were!

You are likely to be on part of your world tour the next time I make them.
But just so you know what you missed .....

Here they are fresh out of the oven. The 10" plate is at the back and on top
of the tea-plate is a small un-cooked cocktail pastry that was the size of a
saucer before filling. I made three large pasties, one med pasty and 3 small
steak and stilton pasties.

I even made the pastry by hand! It was 3 cups of flour, butter, margarine,
salt and water.

Incidentally, if I was going to Key West, I would go during 'Fantasy Fest'
week. It is the last week in October.
