I have heard that witches in Cornwall used to fly on broomsticks,
however I have also heard there is/was a plant that when treated in a
certain way could induce an euphoric feeling when rubbed into the skin
close to nerve endings, apparantly this plant/herb was found readily in
Cornish hedgrows.

The best place to administer the salve would be where blood vessels are
close to the skin surface and a broomstick wrapped with a cloth steeped
in the salve would be a readily available tool.

Could this be the origin of witches potions and broomstick flying, I
always assumed the flying they did was phisical but it may be mental as
in LSD.

Anyone know anything about this?? especially what the plant was.
