In Cricket,
When fielding and you catch a ball delivered from the batsman, i.e.
caught out. How long do you have to hold the ball before the umpire
calls out?.

Until you have full control over the ball. In other words, you are holding
it firmly. You can catch it, fumble with it, drop it, catch it before it
hits the ground, but until you have full control, you haven't caught out the
batsman. If you catch it and immediately throw it to the bowler, you are
showing you have control.
